Hello nerds!

After the huge success Venom enjoyed at the box office, a sequel was virtually a lock. And with the post-credits promise of Woody Harrelson playing maniacal serial killer turned symbiote-host, Cletus Kasady aka Carnage in the future, there was a lot to be excited about. So, now the official trailer for “Venom 2” has released, fans of the first one might be pleasantly surprised.

Directed by Andy Serkis, Venom: Let There Be Carnage sees the returns of Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, and Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady/Carnage. Joining them is Naomie Harris as Cletus’ girlfriend, the villainous mutant Shriek. Imagine if the slow introduction of mutants to the MCU continues in a Sony movie… but I digress. As for the trailer itself, we get a better sense of the plot of the movie, and some glimpses of Carnage in all their frightening glory.

While on death row awaiting exaction, Cletus Kasady is being looked at for some unsolved murders. It’s then, during said execution, all symbiotic-hell breaks loose. Fans of the Spider-Man comics will notice a change to Carnage’s origin a tad, but most of the key elements are there. Plus, given how utterly fantastic the offspring of Venom looks in in live-action, I think most folks will be ok with it.

All in all, the adorably weird, and comedic elements of the first film are ever-present in the footage, as are the teases for the big budget CGI monster fights we’ve come to expect. Happily, they shitcanned the atrocious wig Woody Harrelson was sporting in the Venom post-credits scene. So, there’s little reason to think the sequel will be any worse than its predecessor.

And with some subtle nods to the MCU, it’s quite likely we see Venom learn about Spider-Man very soon. While I doubt the studio let’s Tom Hardy’s Venom go full villain against Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, I’m sure we’ll see some very entering interactions between the two. After all, they’ll need that sort of frenemy dynamic when they have to team-up to take down the Sinister Six. Which is definitely happening.
