The Hook Brings You Back! Here's The Official Trailer For Candyman

Hello nerds!

The trailer for Nia DaCosta‘s Candyman has arrived, and this movie looks scary AF.

For those unfamiliar, Candyman 2020 is a sequel to/reboot of the 1992 horror classic from Bernard Rose and Clive Barker, starring Tony Todd and Virginia Madsen. If you’ve seen it, you’re aware of why it’s considered to be a true classic of the horror genre.

So, if that movie were to be rebooted in any capacity, it would require someone vastly talented to take over the hook from Tony Todd. Thankfully, Candyman 2020 star Yahya Abdul-Mateen is just the guy to do it. And from the looks of things, his character might not have a choice in the matter.

The trailer begins by taking us back to Cabrini-Green in Chicago, and briefly sums up the legend of Candyman. Then we meet Anthony McCoy, an artist, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen, who’s trying to dig up the real truth behind the legend. However, in doing so he might become the legend himself. Think Nightmare on Elm Street 2, but better.

Interestingly, it’s been confirmed the original Candyman, played brilliantly by Tony Todd, is in the film. Albeit, it’s in an undisclosed capacity. Though, if you look closely, you may catch a glimpse of him in the trailer. Plus, producer/ co-writer Jordan Peele’s unique brand of horror makes its presence known in the movie.

Much like his previous films, there’s an eerie take on a popular song to go with the all of the creepy shit we see in the footage. And I can’t wait to see more.

Candyman hacks into theaters on June 12, 2020.
