Amazon's The Boys Is A Chip Off The Ole Ultra-Violent & Adult AF Comic

Hello nerds!

We’ve got the official teaser for what could be my favorite frickin’ show of all-time. Based on the utterly fascinating and completely bananas comic book from Garth Ennis, The Boys, from the looks of the trailer, this show will do things in the world of superheroes that have never been seen. Some superheroes are real pieces of shit and need to be dealt with. The hard way.

Well, it’s up to a group of superpowered mercs known as The Boys, to beat the absolute crap out of the offending “Supe” until they see the error in their ways or die. Whichever happens first. As it so happens, a few of the absolute worst happen to be at the top of the superpowered food chain, The Seven, or this world’s Avengers/Justice League.

Starring Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as "Wee" Hughie Campbell, Karen Fukuhara as The Female, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk Tomer Kapon as The Frenchman, The Boys is the second comic of Ennis’ Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg have produced for TV (the other is AMC’s Preacher, bee-tee-dubbs). And given the fairly lofty budget and the series being done by Amazon, we should expect some spectacular entertainment that will offer some unique and truly refreshing takes on superheroes.

And if you need a bit more of a sweetener to give the show a gander, Simon Pegg will co-star as Wee Hughie's father. And for fans of the comic, this is a real treat. Pegg is the inspiration for Wee Hughie's appearance in the comic and it was always a fancasting dream if The Boys were to go live-action, Pegg would star. So, his inclusion is a really cool little easter egg.

Sadly, there’s no official premiere date for The Boys other than Summer 2019. But it’s better than nothing.

In a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, THE BOYS centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as “The Boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than their blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty. THE BOYS is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes.
